What are ovarian cysts?
Ovarian cysts are small fluid-filled sacs that develop in a woman's ovaries. Most cysts are harmless, but some may cause problems such as rupturing, bleeding, or pain.
Cysts may be observed with repeat ultrasound to see if they resolve on their own. If not, hormonal therapy, typically birth control pills may be used. Surgery may be required to remove the cyst, biopsy the cyst or to remove the ovary.
