What is Voiding Dysfunction?
Voiding Dysfunction includes problems with urination, such as difficulty initiating urinary stream, slow or intermittent urinary stream, incomplete bladder emptying or complete urinary retention (inability to urinate).
Causes of Voiding Dysfunction
The dysfunction may be due to prolapse & treating the prolapse may correct the voiding problem. Otherwise, the urethra may not be relaxing and/or the bladder muscle may not be contracting.
Medication, physical therapy, neuromodulation or chronic use of a catheter (through the urethra or through a small opening created in the lower abdomen), are also common causes. Occasionally, chronic constipation is the cause of the voiding dysfunction.
Treatment will depend on examination and test results.
